KEPALA BATAS: Four fire and rescue personnel were injured after their fire truck skidded and crashed into two houses in Kampung Pasir Gebu, Penaga, here last night as it was rushing to the scene of a fire.
Penang Fire and Rescue director Azmi Tamat said Shawal Dahaman, Nordin Hassan, Shamsuddin Mohd Nahu and Ridzuan Hamid, aged between 25 and 40, were on their way to Pajak Song when the accident happened at 9.25 pm.
"The vehicle was negotiating a bend at an intersection when a motorcycle came from the opposite direction. The truck driver tried to avoid hitting it but lost control and crashed onto the kitchen walls of two houses," he said.
Azmi said a fire and rescue team took two hours to remove one of the victims stuck in the vehicle which was trapped between a tree and a house.
Noriah Wahab, 61, who lives in one of the houses, said she was praying in her room when she heard a loud noise.
"I thought a tree had fallen. Actually, it was a wall in my house that tumbled. Thankfully, no one was injured," she said.
She and her son, Nurizwan Abdul Razak, 31, were the only ones at home at the time, she added. -- BERNAMA
